Finally, we've landed in Bali

After a 37 hr itinerary, we have finally arrived in Bali for our 3 week vacation. This was supposed to be our one big final trip that we could do on the cheap before Connor turned 2, while he could fly for free. Little did we know what we would encounter....
Tickets booked for first class travel on points, we are off.  Victoria to Seattle, lunch in the first class lounge, onto LA where we had a 7 hour layover before boarding to Hong Kong.  Kevin and Connor had a shower in the LA lounge, had some snacks, lots of songs on the iPad for Connor, a little nap for him too, and 7 hours was up.  Well there was some fussing and grumpiness in between but all in all, he did really good.  And now the drama begins.  We get called from the lounge to go to the gate a few minutes before boarding time as they want to check our tickets, so off we go.  Tickets checked and we are kindly informed that the 2 tickets we have (one for me and one for Kevin with infant) is not sufficient, that for international travel with Cathay Pacific, we need a ticket for Connor too, even with him traveling on lap. I say what??!!  Why was this not mentioned to us when we booked our tickets?  So now what do we do?  Well, if we want to continue, we will need to buy him a ticket....at the low low cost of $3400 one way (or $5600 return but if we are going to try to get this rectified with the airline, she suggested buying only one way).  GULP!  Well guess its pay or leave the child behind. Kind of hard to do anything else when you are informed while the plane is loading you have to buy another ticket or not get on the plane.  So cha ching goes the credit card for $3400 and we continue down the ramp and board the plane.  Yes, I felt like crying but when we got settled into our first class pod seats, it felt a little better (well not much, but these seats are pretty sweet...better be for $3400!!)
Flight to Hong Kong (14 hours) went pretty well. Connor managed to sleep a good chunk, some with me in my bed and some with daddy.  As much as I look down on the concept of co-sleeping, hmm maybe we should have done it a bit for practice cause this whole sharing the space isn't working well. My boy is a bed hog!
Survived that flight.  Hung out in the Hong Kong Cathay Pacific lounge for 5 hours before our last leg (not much else to do as its 4am and nothing is open in the airport).  The whole family had a nice long shower to recharge (love the first class lounges for this) and Connor fell asleep in daddy's arms for about an hour.  Then onto the last flight (4.5 hrs) to destination Bali.  Best $$ spent was the fast track service we paid for where we were met getting off the plane by a guy who took our passports, got us cleared in about 2 mins and escorted us directly thru immigration (heehee while we watched the big lineup of people).  Only line we had to stand in was to get thru the little security baggage check, but it was quick.  Felt like a rock star!
Found our driver, got all packed up and off to the Tangjung Sari resort we go!  It's hot, I'm sweating...the vacation has begun!
