Day trip to Saturia Hot Pools

We did a little driving tour today south to check out these natural hot pools we read about. Filled our car up with gas, and away we went. First stop was in a small walled village up on the hill named Monteriggioni, where we had lunch and walked around a bit. Weird thing, these walled towns….this is the second of third one we’ve been to that had a cat sitting right at the entrance into the village – I went up to it and petted this one and it didn’t even react to me much….there was one sitting at the entrance into San Gimignano when we arrived in the day, as was still there in the exact same place when we went back that night for dinner (and yes, they were alive). Someone is watching over these walled cities!
Hopped in the car again, and kept on driving towards Saturnia, making a few stops here and there for photo-ops. Arrived at the pools late in the afternoon (a long drive on these windy roads), so soaked for about an hour (mmmm, such nice warm water). Our travel book said they were supposed to be around 37 degrees, but I don’t think they were that hot. It was pleasantly warm though. Kevin ventured up the hill of pools to sit in the waterfall right where the water comes pouring down into the pools. Was funny to watch him sitting and getting pounded by the water. I stuck to the lesser violent pools, although one that I was sitting in had a pretty good pressure of water pouring over the rocks into it, so I got a nice back massage as well. It was really amazing that these pools were all natural. Quite amazing to see and experience.
Well, we knew we had a long drive home, so back in the car we got, and headed back home. This time we took the less windy route home on the highway, so made up some time. Got home, made a late dinner, and off to bed – was zonked from that nice afternoon water soak and massage.
