Drive to Haleakala Crater

We drove from sea level to 10,023 ft today to the top of the dormant volcano. Terrain went from hawaiian tropic lush green to desert-like to Mars-like; red brown, and black volcanic rock. Pretty cool looking. Unfortunately, the crater (which is large enough to house Manhattan) was filled with clouds, so we could not see down into it. Still quite the site to see!
We are off to eat at a restaurant called the Waterfront tonight, apparently suppose to be a really good restaurant right down on the beach (no sushi tonight). Tomorrow we move from our condo to our last night's stay at the Marriott on Wailea beach....and we are luau'ing tomorrow at the hotel. Mmm, pig in a pit!
