Boo Boos and Daycare Woes
Well, its been quite an eventful weekend. First on Friday when I picked Connor up from daycare, our daycare lady informed us that is wasn't working out with Connor and we should find a new daycare starting for July. Yep - he got the boot! It's been a tough transition for him, being sick so much the past few months, and we all were starting to feel that maybe it wasn't the right fit for him. Too many kids (7-8 full time kids) and too much hustle and bustle. She is a very active daycare, taking them out on adventures and activities every day. It was just too much for him. She often reported him not being happy, having a hard time coping, etc, so maybe its for the best. It did come as a bit of a shock though, as we thought things were starting to get better. So I spent the weekend frantically looking for something new.
And to top it all off, Connor and I went to the park for a friend's son's 1st birthday party, and as Connor was sliding down the slide feet first on his belly, his shoe caught the side of the slide, stopping him instantly, and wrenching his leg out to the side. Scary moment for mommy. At first I thought he had maybe broken his leg because as I pulled him off the slide crying, his leg was just limp and dangling. After a visit to the doctor, the diagnosis was that he pulled his MCL ligament in his knee. Poor little guy. A popular sports injury, but not something you'd expect a toddler to do. Doctor was quite surprised too. So Connor spent the weekend, and the beginning of the week not able to put any weight on his leg and walk on it at all. Quite frustrating for an almost 2 year old. He fared pretty well though, considering. Started limping around a bit by Tueday evening.
So there I was dragging an injured kid around, who couldn't walk, to half a dozen daycares to check them out. The first one we went to on Tues seemed to be a gem. Connor, who had not put any weight on his leg at all yet that day, actually climbed off my lap and started hobbling around the place checking it out, making his way into the toy room. Hmmm, he seems pretty comfortable here! The daycare lady is a mom with a 3 yr old boy and a 6 yr old girl, and then takes in 2 other little boys (ages 2 & 3) part time and has a couple girls her daughter's age sometimes before and after school - so a lot less kids, less busy, and just a more homey feel than his current place. So after checking out a few more places (one where it was so noisy and crazy, Connor sat on my lap and sucked his thumb the whole time), we decided to sign up with Erin, the first lady we saw. She had the opening available immediately, so I pulled Connor from his current daycare and am transitioning him immediately into this new one. Did a couple hours on Wednesday with me there, a few hours on his own on Thursday and a half day on Friday. He seemed to really like it there, and by the second day was giving Erin a hug when we showed up!! A great sign I think.
Connor is still limping and walking a bit funny, but he seems to be on the mend. I ended up taking him for xrays, at the advice of the doctor if he wasn't walking on it after a few days, which he kind of wasn't, but it showed nothing. Hopefully he will have a full recovery.
