Christmas at our house with Grandma and Grandpa
Christmas was pretty low key this year. We decided to stay home this year, since having just got back from traveling. Was fortunate that my mom and dad were able to come to Victoria to spend the holidays with us, which was very nice. They arrived the day before my birthday and mom treated me to a cooked meal (lasagne - my fave) and birthday cake on my birthday - was nice to have the day off!
After dinner on Christmas Eve, Mom, Dad and I took a drive around the city to see the christmas lights. Now it's usually Kevin's job to find all the good houses, but since he stayed at home with Connor, it was my responsibility, and sadly I lacked the ability. We first drove around our neighbourhood and found a super lit up house with dancing lights and everything about a block away - was pretty spectacular.....and then nothing but bah humbug around the rest of the city. I finally got smart and looked up the map of houses with lights that the local newspaper published and we ended the night in an area not too far from our house that had a pretty good street of multiple houses quite lit up. Was a fun evening, even though we drove all over the city and the best houses turned out to be right in our neighbourhood!
Christmas day was pretty calm too. Connor was a little overwhelmed with presents and wrapping paper, so we took our time and did a few sessions of opening presents throughout the day. The one thing we learned to be the most frustrating for both him and the adults was the way toys nowadays are fastened into the boxes. Poor Connor was having a fit while we tried to unscrew (yes, had to literally get a screwdriver and unscrew his toy truck from clips fastened to the box) and untie toys from their packaging. After having opening a few toys and establishing them as his faves, he wasn't too interested in opening anything else. Highlights this year for him - a little house and a kitchen centre that both have multiple doors to open and buttons to push and sing and makes many different noises. He seems to have an obsesssion with doors so anything with things to open and close this year was a hit. And of course the advent calendar from nana and papa. Again, doors to open - with the added bonus of chocolate (which mommy let him have one every second or third day - I maybe got into them on the other days teehee).
With some assistance from mom and dad, we prepared a wonderful ham dinner on the 24th and turkey dinner on the 25th - Kevin wanted both ham and turkey so we split it up into two days of mass feasts (and then all the leftovers the days following). The holidays were wonderful. Great to have my parents there to spend time with Connor.
