Last Days in Ubud
Our last days in Ubud were pretty low key. Both days started with breakfast at the villa, Laila and Hal going for a swim while Connor napped and then our daily trip into Ubud to Freak Coffee (we've gone every day since we've been here). We walked around the streets of Ubud browsing in a few shops for awhile, and then found a little place for lunch - mainly to get out of the rain that was just about it start. Kevin and I remember from last time, that when it rains in Ubud, it pours a torrential downpour. We called for the driver at the villa to come get us after lunch, went back to the villa, and while Connor napped, Hal and Laila went for their afternoon swim. Putu, our babysitter, came back again in the evening to watch Laila and Connor while we went for a special dinner to Mosiac in Ubud. The decor of the restaurant was lovely. They led us into this beautiful lounge area first to enjoy cocktails and canapés (I think the canapés were the highlight of the entire night - so yummy). Whe were then moved to the restaurant area, which was quite lovely as well. We decided to order the chef's surprise menu which was 6 mystery courses. Based on our food preferences and aversions, which were discussed prior to being served, Tash and I ended up having different dishes than the boys, so with sharing, we actually got to try 12 different dishes, which was wonderful. Food and presentation was really good, but they had a bit too much of a theme going with white truffle oil in almost every dish...yes even the desserts. Unfortunately the desserts were the letdown of the evening. Truffle oil and raspberry sorbet DO NOT go well together. Blah!! Kevin did enjoy the white truffle ice cream but the rest of us thought it was pretty awful too. Other than that, we had a lovely evening. It still was fun to try the surprise menu.
Today after breakfast, a swim and of course Freak Coffee, Made drove us down to Jimbaran Bay to go visit Jengala (the ceramics place we loved visiting last time) and to go have a seafood lunch on the beach. Couldn't believe how deserted the restaurants on the beach were. Definitely a slower time in Bali right now. We returned in the afternoon for a last swim and a wonderful last meal in our villa. We are off to the north coast tomorrow, and the Aussies are heading back to Sanur for one last night before heading home. It's been a wonderful week and we will miss them next week as we continue our adventures in Bali!
